Magnetic Components definition
Richard Electronic, one of the most reliable electronic components distributors, provides the magnetic component product category. And the Magnetic - Transformer, Inductor Components category includes products used for assembling custom or prototype magnetic components, such as polyurethane- or polyamide-insulated copper wire (magnet wire), gapped and ungapped ferrite cores, adjusting screw and coil formers (bobbins) around which such wire can be wound and subsequently assembled with a core to produce a transformer or inductor with user-controlled characteristics.
Magnetic Components
Magnetic components are passive electrical components, which is able to change electrical current by relying on an internal magnetic field. And they're used in a variety of electrical gadgets, systems and equipment. Magnetic Components are often applied in a wide range of industries, such as common household & advanced industrial appliances (for example, telecommunication devices, refrigerators), communication systems, defense (for example, weaponry, transport vehicles and surveillance equipment), computers and electronics and Automotive industry.
According to the function and configuration of Magnetic components, there are 4 different types of Magnetic Components: Non-isolated magnetic components, Isolated Magnetic Components, High-frequency magnetic components and Low-frequency magnetic components. Apart from them, Magnetic components can be grouped into 2 main product lines: Inductors and Transformers.
Inductors
A wire coil or loop coiled around a metal core makes up an inductor. They provide energy storage as well as the addition of resistance to a circuit. As current flows across the circuit, magnetic energy is stored in the element. The magnetic field creates voltage in the conductor when the current flow stops. There are 5 types of inductors are available, such as Variable inductors, Bobbin-based inductors, Film inductors, Multi-layer inductors and Toroidal inductors. Besides, there are a kind of specialized inductor called Chokes. Chokes are made up of insulated wire coils that are wound around a magnetic core. And They are able to block high-frequency alternating current (AC) while allowing low-frequency direct current (DC) to flow freely, reducing the danger of noise interfering with system performance.
Transformers
Transformers are made up of two or more wire coils that allow electrical energy to be transferred when they are exposed to a changing magnetic field. They're mainly employed when power has to be transmitted between two separate levels in a circuit. They serve as filters or stabilizers for the circuit's voltage levels in addition to stepping the voltage up or down. 6 types of transformers are as the following: Isolation transformers, Power transformers, Current transformers, Three-phase transformers, Single-phase transformers and Step-up/step-down transformers.
Ferrite Cores
Ferrite Cores are intended to remove common mode noise (signal) from a signal line or power cable. And a ferrite core is a type of magnetic core composed of ferrite that is used to produce the windings of electric transformers and other wound components like inductors in electronics. It's employed because it has a high magnetic permeability and a low electrical conductivity (which helps prevent eddy currents).
Types of Ferrite Cores
Depending on ferrite materials, Ferrite cores are classified as: NiZn (Nickel Zinc Ferrite) and MnZn (Manganese Zinc Ferrite).
Meanwhile, there are 4 Ferrite Cores types available by different shapes, like EER Cores, ETD Cores, EFD Cores and E, I Cores. Different types of Ferrite Cores has different applications. For example, ETD Cores is good for inductors and Power transformers; E,I Cores ideal for inverter, converter, broadband transformers and telecom, differential and power inductors; EFD cores for compact transformers.
Surge Protector vs. Power Strip
A surge protector is a sort of power strip that is meant to resist power surges and safeguard your equipment. You can connect many gadgets into a single wall socket using a power strip.
Coil Former
A transformer's coil formers are electrical components, which are able to transfer energy between two or more circuits. And they're often utilized in electrical PCBs (printed circuit boards) to generate energy for electrical equipment like generators and motors.
